LPL is an enzyme which catabolizes Triglyceride (TG) in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins such as dietary-derived Chylomicron and VLDL synthesized in the liver and it has an important role for TG metabolism with as the essential factor ApoC-II.

LPL is bound by GPIHBP1 or heparan sulfate proteoglycan on the surface of microvascular endothelium of adipose tissue rather than the liver or muscles. Deficient of LPL and declining of its function are found in type I, IV and V hyperlipemia and it has been considered that they are one of the cause of high TG. This kit can quantitatively measure LPL in mouse serum and mouse post heparin EDTA-plasma.
