Kidney Disease
Mar 27th 2026
Kidneys are paired, bean-shaped organs that filter approximately 50 gallons of blood daily and are involved in electrolyte balance and producing hormones that regulate blood pressure, such as renin, which is part of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.1
Over 100 million U.S. citizens experience high blood pressure2, with over 35 million individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD)3. Potential risk factors for CKD include hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and a family history of kidney failure. To mitigate the risk of developing kidney disease, stay hydrated, manage blood pressure and blood sugar levels, consume a low-sodium diet, engage in regular physical activity, and avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.4
Acute kidney injury (AKI) may result from trauma, severe infection, dehydration or nephrotoxic medications resulting in a sudden decline in kidney function.5
IBL-America offers a variety of unique biomarker assays that may be useful for studying acute kidney injury (AKI) and/or chronic kidney diseases (CKD):
- Measurement of Galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) levels may provide information on the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN), a leading renal disease. IgAN or Berger’s Disease occurs when Immunoglobin A builds up in the kidneys.6
- Klotho levels are decreased in AKI and CKD. Alpha-Klotho can be measured as secreted or soluble forms.
- Uromodulin, also known as Tamm-Horsfall protein, is exclusively produced by the kidneys and is the most abundant protein in normal urine. Uromodulin has multiple physiological roles, including kidney protection.7
- Complement has been shown to have roles in immune-complex glomerulonephritis and the pathogenesis of many non-immune-complex mediated kidney diseases.
IBL-America also offers kits for aldosterone, renin, and angiotensin. Please contact us to learn more about our offerings.
