About Marian

Marian Henjum makes her living as a painter/designer/illustrator in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised on a farm near Garretson, SD, and graduated from South Dakota State University in art education. She is listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and was selected as an Outstanding Young Woman of America.

Marian has been employed as an art instructor at her alma mater, and in Sioux Falls as an art director for the Argus Leader and two advertising agencies, and fashion illustrator for a clothing store.

Exhibitions include 32 solo shows and numerous group shows throughout the Midwest. She is a signature member of the Midwest Watercolor Society. Marian's work s in many private and public collections throughout the United States including six permanent collections. She is a recipient of a 2005 and a 1999 Artist Project Grants and a 1992 Emerging Artist Grant from the South Dakota Arts Council. In 1998 she was voted Sioux Falls' favorite artist. The United States Postal Service selected Marian to design the 1989 South Dakota Centennial Stamp. 160 million stamps were printed and distributed world wide.

Marian has served as board member for the Sioux Falls Visual Arts Center, and Vice President and Director at Large for the Sioux Falls Artist League. Art activities include teaching, speaking, giving painting demonstrations, judging area art shows, participating on panels and personal TV interviews discussing art as a career, and donating art and time to community fund raising events. She was a partner in developing one of the largest galleries in South Dakota that features regional artists. Marian is represented by galleries in the Midwest.
